LABIAPLASTY

A DISTINCTIVELY DIFFERENT PRACTICE

EXPERIENCE EXTRAORDINARY

What is Labiaplasty?

The labia are the folds of tissue on either side of the vagina. The labia majora are the outer folds and the labia minora are the inner folds. Some women experience emotional distress and/or physical discomfort from overly large or asymmetric labia. The physical discomfort can arise during exercise, or with sexual activity.

Labiaplasty is a procedure to contour the labia to help alleviate symptoms of overly large, or asymmetric labia. Most commonly, excess tissue from the labia minora or inner folds is removed and the remaining labia is reshaped. This can improve the tugging sensation that women experience during activity, and can help a woman feel more confident about the appearance of her genital region. Labiaplasty is a good option for you if you are relatively healthy and are bothered by the large size or asymmetric appearance of your labia. When choosing a plastic surgeon for labiaplasty, remember that the surgeon’s experience and your comfort with him or her are just as important as the final cost of the surgery.

About the Procedure:

Labiaplasty involves making incisions on the labia, most commonly the labia minora, to remove excess tissue so that the labia minora do not hang below the labia majora. The technique used to reduce your labia will be determined by your individual anatomy. Sometimes the labial tissue is trimmed, and in other cases a wedge resection is necessary. The incisions are closed with absorbable sutures that do not need to be removed.

The results of your labiaplasty are immediately visible and will be long-lasting. Incision lines tend to heal very well. Dr. Hewell and Dr. Fischer’s patients report a very high rate of satisfaction with this procedure, and minimal pain during recovery because of their special technique.
