ABOUT OUR PRACTICE

CELEBRATING 50 YEARS OF EXCELLENCE, ARTISTRY & EXPERIENCE IN AESTHETIC AND RECONSTRUCTIVE PLASTIC SURGERY

1968 – 2018

Our practice was established in 1968 in St. Charles, Illinois by Mary L. McKenzie, M.D., F.A.C.S.  Mary did her residency in plastic surgery at Northwestern Hospital and Cook County Hospital under the direction of Orion Stuteville, M.D., D.D.S.  She was one of approximately six female plastic surgeons at that time certified by both the American Board of Plastic Surgery as well as the American Board of Surgery.  Dr. McKenzie established the first plastic surgical practice in the Fox Valley in St. Charles, Illinois in a 1400 square foot space at 895 Geneva Road.  She was affiliated with Delnor Hospital in St. Charles as well as Community Hospital in Geneva.  Dr. McKenzie had interests in aesthetic surgery as well as pediatric plastic surgery.  She was on the teaching staff at Shriners Hospital for Children in Chicago as well as an early member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery.  In 1982 she was one of the first practices to achieve national accreditation with AAAASF for her outpatient surgical facility.

Following completion of two residencies in Plastic Surgery and Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery, Dr. Todd S. Hewell, III assumed the practice in 1985 pursuant to Dr. McKenzie’s retirement.   Dr. Hewell served on the Delnor Hospital Foundation Board from 1988-1995 and was appointed to the health system and hospital board in 1995 and served until 2009.  Dr. Hewell has served as the Chairman of the Department of Surgery, President of the Medical Staff, Chairman of the Executive Committee, and was the first Chairman of the Quality Committee of the Board of Directors at Delnor-Community Hospital.  In 1992 Dr. Hewell designed and built a custom facility which includes our globally and nationally accredited AAAASF outpatient surgical facility.  A dream was realized in 2016 when Dr. Hewell’s daughter, Dr. Lauren Hewell Fischer, joined him in practice following successful completion of a rigorous plastic surgery residency at Stanford.  Prior to residency, Dr. Fischer received her medical degree from Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine, where was a member of the Alpha Omega Alpha (AOA) National Honor Society.

The practice has treated over 35,000 patients and is one of the oldest continuously run plastic surgical practice in the metropolitan Chicago area.  The practice includes local, regional, national, and international patients, and is one of a few practices in the Midwest able to perform complex body contouring procedures as an outpatient in an office setting.  The practice is indebted to the many patients who have made this practice a success.
